Migrate Archive1 to a new failover cluster named Cluster3 that will run Windows Server 2022. - Cluster3 will contain two physical nodes named Node1 and Node2. - The file shares on Cluster3 will be a failover cluster role in active-passive mode. 2 nodes + Cluster = 3 IP Addresses

To create a two-node file server cluster, you would typically need a minimum of five IP addresses: 1. IP address for the first node. 2. IP address for the second node. 3. An IP address for the cluster itself. 4. IP addresses for the file share or services running on the cluster. Usually, at least one is needed, but this may vary depending on your configuration. 5. An additional IP address for the management or administration interface, if used separately.

The answer is 4. 1 per node (2 nodes) + 1 for the Cluster3 + 1 for the Cluster FileServer Role. Question clearly states Active/Passive which is General Purpose. Active/Active would be SoFS. It is clearly stated in the case study.

First I thought it was 4, it does not say old fashion or scale out file server. But minimum we could make scale out file server. Then only: 2 hosts and 1 virtual ip is 3. Answer is correct

It is a failover cluster instance. It needs 4 IP addresses: 1 for the cluster 1 for each node 1 for cluster role

A cluster takes at least 2 ip per server- one for storage and one for management- then for some dedicated migration- you might have one for the share resources- I would say 5

You are assuming its not SAS DAS storage for the cluster.

Without more information on file share type, the minimum required IP addresses does seem to be 3. So answer seems to be correct.

This question is crazy- so a cluster takes at least 2 ip per server- one for storage and one for management- then for some dedicated migration- you might have one for the share resources- I would say 5, but the cluster could handle the share traffic just to move the data out- so i am saying 4 but i am not happy with the answer - anyone got better reasoning ?

In case description in part "On-Premises Migration Plan" there is such sentence: "The file shares on Cluster3 will be a failover cluster role in active-passive mode" - in my opinion it means that we should use "File Server for General Use" cluster role so it needs 4 IPs

On second thought: 4 IPs are necessary for the whole cluster implementation: 2 IPs for nodes, one for "File server for General Use" role and one for cluster itself. But question asks: "IP addresses required for the node and cluster roles" - with such wording it looks for me like question's author wants us to omit IP for cluster itself

Not sure if this is correct, the failover clusters I've setup had a separate IP address for the file server failover cluster role, so the answer could be C: 4. The question does say what is the minimum, so maybe there's a way to configure the file server to use the same IP as the cluster virtual IP.

I tested this out, and it depends on the type of file server role, which I don't see mentioned here. If it's a general purpose type then it requires a dedicated IP so the answer would be 4. If it's a Scale Out type, then it uses the IP addresses of each cluster node, so without more details the answer of 3 would be correct.
