You are planning the deployment of DNS to a new network.
You have three internal DNS servers as shown in the following table.
The contoso.local zone contains zone delegations for east.contoso.local and west.contoso.local. All the DNS servers use root hints.
You need to ensure that all the DNS servers can resolve the names of all the internal namespaces and internet hosts.
Solution: On Server2, you create a conditional forwarder for west.contoso.local. On Server3, you create a conditional forwarder for east.contoso.local.
Does this meet the goal?
- A. Yes
- B. No
- B. No

These DNS questions are quite misleading. By default, root DC DNS has delegations to child domains. And child domains DNSes by default have forwarders to root domain DNS. So even without any additional conditions name resolution will work between all of the domains.

The question is about DNS zones and DNS servers. There is nothing about domains or child domains. Answer B.

I Would say No because Server2 cannot resolve contoso.local and server3 cannot resolve contoso.local.

But there is one but :) When you promote child DC, forwarder to the root domain DNS server on this DC is set automatically :)

This is exactly as question 9. How come over there most voted is Yes and here is No?? Indeed, the solution you provided meets the goal. By creating conditional forwarders on Server2 and Server3, you ensure that DNS resolution for the internal namespaces (such as east.contoso.local and west.contoso.local) is handled correctly. This approach allows you to resolve both internal namespaces and internet hosts effectively.

"You need to ensure that all the DNS servers can resolve the names of all the internal namespaces and internet hosts." Still no resolution of internet hosts!

"You need to ensure that all the DNS servers can resolve the names of all the internal namespaces and internet hosts." Forwarding will get the client the IP address, but forwarding doesn't meet the requirements.

You would still need to forward for the parent domain Answer is No

Yes, this solution meets the goal of ensuring that all the DNS servers can resolve the names of all the internal namespaces and internet hosts. By creating conditional forwarders on Server2 and Server3, you are allowing each DNS server to forward any requests it cannot resolve locally to another DNS server that may be able to resolve them. With the forwarders set up in this manner, Server2 and Server3 will be able to resolve the names of the internal namespaces and internet hosts, including those for contoso.local, east.contoso.local, and west.contoso.local.

if no forwarder or conditional forwarder is setup to point the children to contoso.local, how will they know where contoso.local is? That is why the answer is No because it doesn't allow all DNS servers to resolve the names of ALL of the internal namespaces.

Because the contoso.local zone contains zone delegations for east.contoso.local and west.contoso.local. All the DNS servers use root hints. Then you need in the child domain’s DC/DNS servers to configure a forwarder to the parent domain’s DC/DNS servers https://blogs.msmvps.com/acefekay/2010/10/01/dns-parent-child-dns-delegation-how-to-create-a-dns-delegation/

Changing my mind - I think A, based on The DNS(DC) server of the child (av.svc.loc) domain will by default have the DNS(DC) of the parrent (svc.loc) set as forwarder, hence the succes for querying from child to parrent.
